Chapter 82 - Leather Lung
Thursday Jun 10, 2021
Thursday Jun 10, 2021
He was once referred to as the "David Lee Roth of doom" and, now, Leather Lung's Mike Vickers is a soon to be neighbor of our very own cipher, who will be moving to Brooklyn this month. But in the meantime, he's got Mike in house to chat about how he discovered Saint Vitus while listening to Saint Vitus (on the Fung Wah Bus), the one time he refused a joint, roller skating hardcore singers, how there is nothing worse than Wooster drivers, Slayer on the N64, Electric Wizard's Top 8, his first band Abomination, some truly bizarre and offensive musical comparisons, a soft spot for Checker's, taking a broken collar bone on tour, the dark days of Green Day, loads of recommendations from power violence to country to hip-hop, and an Ode to Doom tease!
Support Leather Lung and check out their mini-doc series.
Track featured is "Dirty Mangy Dog" off Lonesome, On'ry & Evil

Chapter 81 - Earl Holloway
Thursday Jun 03, 2021
Thursday Jun 03, 2021
KCBC house artist Earl Holloway joins us for this week's chapter. Earl had previously popped up in the cipher's life when he was commissioned to do a bit of original artwork for him (which you can see on their respective Instagram pages), so it was only natural that these two would, like the unexpected car accident that happened during recording, eventually come together. They broach a number of topics, including Virgin Mary muscle car murals, what it was like for Earl to bounce from art school to the military to freelance, how Jack Kirby perfected space and so many other things, RAGE comics, getting into craft beer and over snobbery, turning reference gathering into collecting, the science and art of KCBC (and a few hiccups), favorite beer labels, Pete Rosso returns in name only, and a world of penguins and beach zombies.
Check out Earl's artwork over on his website and Instagram. Drink KCBC, drink local, and don't run red lights!
*Note: We meant to say Sixpoint Bengali IPA, not Sweet Action, their equally good cream ale.

Chapter 80 - Domkraft
Thursday May 27, 2021
Thursday May 27, 2021
Swedish doom rockers Domkraft join us this week, with Martin Widholm in-house with us. After reminiscing of the Day of Doom back in 2019, Martin delves into why he chose skateboarding and punk rock over sports, being part of one big happy doom-punk family, stemming out from garage rock, Roadburn innovation, having a (Pink Floyd's) Meddlesome childhood, that Swedish sound, government-funded rehearsal spaces, a tale of two Martin's, Magnetic Eye's commitment to the music, the evolving album artwork of Bjorn Atldax, and never deciding to become a doom band.
Domkraft's latest album, Seeds, is out now and available for purchase over at their Bandcamp.
Track featured is "Tremors" off Seeds

Chapter 79 - Tines
Thursday May 20, 2021
Thursday May 20, 2021
Our guest this week is Glenn Szymanski of Buffalo's Tines. Glenn runs us through his musical history, talking about being converted to metal through The Road Warriors tag-team duo, his old death metal band Mutant Supremacy and experimental outfit Ad Hoc Theory, Tines' exploratory EP, not being influenced by anything post-1985, what it is like to be too musical for punk and too loud and fast for hard rock, housing Andy Patterson back in the day, building the NY Doomed and Stoned compilation, his many travels, and big love for Arthur Brown, Nik Turner, and Betty Davis.

Chapter 78 - Black Tar Superstar
Thursday May 13, 2021
Thursday May 13, 2021
From the murky depths of Akron rises the Black Tar Superstar! Reaper and Texas Heat drop in to talk about their forthcoming album, as well as keeping that Texas energy real onstage, how the collapse of one band lead to BTS, being sold on Diamond & Danzig, Ozzfest '99, taking notes from Trey Azagthoth to stay humble, recognize their international fans, the power of teaching music (but keeping the metal band under wraps for the kids), a one-man 8-bit Game Boy band, doom mash waves, Skyline Chili vs. Buckeyes (and more regional fare), and keeping it kayfabe.

Chapter 77 - Elliott Trifilo
Thursday May 06, 2021
Thursday May 06, 2021
It's Diary of Doom: Coast to Coast edition, as two fellow Psychos unite from opposite ends of the land. Elliott Trifilo dishes out on why he appreciates all genres spawned from the fretboard, the magic feeling of being at the right festival, powering through illness for Danava, the logistics of a traveling festival, many Psycho Las Vegas memories, festival tactics, not paying extra for the Misfits, a saucerful of sound issues, getting back into hardcore, and being a hard stan for Dunable.
If you are a drummer in the San Francisco/Oakland area, hit up Elliott on Instagram.

Chapter 76 - Wake Brewing
Thursday Apr 29, 2021
Thursday Apr 29, 2021
We are closing out 4/20 month by talking about beer. Not just any beer: riff infused beer. Jason Parris has been a lifetime lover of metal and beer and in 2017, he joined the pantheon of metal breweries with Wake Brewing. During our chat, Jason talks about cutting his teeth on home brews, booking for RIBCO, why 3 Floyds' Dark Lord changed the beer game, avoiding the Etsy brewery appearance like the plague, the long-lasting DIY similarities of craft beer and metal, stealing tunes from his drunk uncles, his first shitty beer (and good one), how crucial the internet was for beer and doom metal, craft beer oversaturation and fads, the beer he is most proud of, his dislike of cellaring, weed beer (weer? beed?), and greening out at Sound Growler.

Chapter 75 - God Luck & Good Speed Commentary
Thursday Apr 22, 2021
Thursday Apr 22, 2021
For our normally scheduled chapter this week, August and Dylan have done another album commentary episode on the much-loved Weedeater album, God Luck & Good Speed. As they peel back the layers of this very sweaty onion, they talk about how Spelljammer made August's band break up, a very drunk Psycho Las Vegas set, Benjamin Jones: International Man of Mystery, coordinating Nine Inch Dong shirts, pairing cough syrup with cheese, seeing Gwar at a pop punk festival, biblical snowstorms, how to get Dylan to listen to Skynyrd, why you should always skip hockey for Weedeater, Bruce Dickinson in a sandwich shop, and getting shit faced at Sabbath.
Please note that the actual commentary starts at 00:19:39 and should be played in sync with the record. If you listen to this without the album playing, well, you're a weirdo.
You can buy Weedeater merch and music over at their Bandcamp page.

Chapter 74 - Bongzilla
Tuesday Apr 20, 2021
Tuesday Apr 20, 2021
We've got a 4/20 bonus episode for y'all and we couldn't think of a more fitting guest other than Bongzilla! Vocalist and now bassist Mike "Muleboy" Mikela dialed in from the dankest corner of the Cheese State itself to help the cipher celebrate the holiday in style. Together they go on about how a little weed would go a long way for all, how growing the holy harvest has changed over the years, the first (and the worst) time Muleboy smoked, the stray hippie effect, why they are more about the music now than partying, being bros with Weedeater, the unfortunate Temples Festival experience that propelled them back together, his favorite methods of attaining extreme altitudes, 4/20 views, lighting one up for John Hopkins putting Weedsconsin together, and why we owe it all to the blues.
Support Bongzilla on their Bandcamp page and over at Heavy Psych Sounds
Track featured is "Sundae Driver" off of Weedsconsin, available now!
Keep an eye out for Bongzilla's side project, Sweet Grass Outlaws, in the future as well as the elusive Weedeater side gig, Bar Stool.

Chapter 73 - Evil Bong w/ I Hope You Suffer
Thursday Apr 15, 2021
Thursday Apr 15, 2021
We are breaking bud and format for this week's chapter, as the cipher delves into the mythos of the Evil Bong series, a franchise that somehow gets worse as it gets better. In order to do so, we've recruited Nathan and Kit from I Hope You Suffer to help combat the most stationery of villains and disseminate what little they can from these cornerstones of cinema. During their epic journey, they address Gary Busey evading hitmen, the stacked cast of Sharknado 6, the fall of Andrew Cuomo as played by Rob Schneider, the legend of Sonny Carl Davis, how purgatory is a strip club, why eating a bowl of chili is the perfect excuse for anything, boobs that do things, the John Goodman classic Matinee, prehistoric weed, his majesty King Bong, turning people into doobies, and iPhone toilet porn.
By the way, there is a band named King Bong and they rip. Go check 'em out!
Support I Hope You Suffer over at their Patreon for exclusive content or at the very least tune in wherever you listen to podcasts and give them a follow on Instagram.
